Justice On Every Block

Florida Rising believes that every block, every family, and every person should have access to what we all need to thrive.

Our Justice on Every Block platform is a list of local policy recommendations that county and city elected officials can take to alleviate some of the biggest challenges we face to ensure that we all have a right to the things that make us happy, healthy, and whole.

Regional Demands

Justice will look different on every block but we know that if we rise together, it’s possible.  We will work with local elected officials to demand common sense policies that secure our right to safe, affordable housing; our right to use our vote and our voice; and our right to community-led safety.

Duval County

On the way to justice, we will expose wealthy real estate investors, dirty energy corporations, and the elected officials who enable them for holding our planet, democracy and communities hostage for profit.

Gadsden County

To ensure Gadsden County residents have justice on every block, County Commissioners must increase funding for youth programs and establish an accessible website for residents to submit and track problems and ensure timely repair.

Leon County

In Tallahassee, Florida Rising members will work with local elected officials to demand common-sense policies that secure our right to safe, affordable housing; our right to clean air, water, energy, and food that keeps us healthy; our right to use our voice and vote; and our right to community-led safety.

Osceola County

To ensure Osceola County residents have justice on every block, the County Commission must commit resources to a right to counsel program that guarantees tenants representation in eviction court, acknowledge the housing state of emergency and let voters decide on a one-year rent freeze, and fund on-call Spanish-language interpretation in eviction court.

Pinellas County

To ensure Pinellas County residents have justice on every block, the County Commission must reform our bail system to minimize incarceration, release existing data regarding odor and air quality in the Childs Park neighborhood and increase funding for Community Assistance and Life Liaison (CALL) program.

Broward & Palm Beach Counties

To ensure residents have justice on every block, County Commissioners must strengthen the existing landlord registry in Broward County, expand to all incorporated municipalities, and establish one in Palm Beach and acknowledge the housing state of emergency and let voters decide on a one-year rent freeze.

Miami-Dade County

To ensure Miami-Dade residents have justice on every block, Miami City Commissioners must adopt and gather meaningful community input on a plan to transition our county to zero waste by 2025 as a part of our comprehensive climate justice strategy, reject further funding, including federal, state, and county grants, to the Doral incinerator and other false waste management solutions that poison people and the planet.

Orange County

To ensure Orange County residents have justice on every block, the Orange County Commission must commit resources to a right to counsel program that guarantees tenants representation in eviction court, acknowledge the housing state of emergency and let voters decide on a one-year rent freeze, and implement housing anti-discrimination ordinances to protect returning citizens.

Seminole County

To ensure Seminole County residents have justice on every block, County Commissioners must ensure the timely distribution of every dollar of federal emergency rental assistance, acknowledge the housing state of emergency and let voters decide on a one-year rent freeze, and implement housing anti-discrimination ordinances to protect returning citizens.

Hillsborough County

On the way to justice we will demand a 90-day eviction notice period for tenants who are pregnant or tenants who have children, a local landlord registry to hold landlords accountable to local safety ordinances, criminal justice reform and an increase of funding for the Community Assistance and Life Liaison (CALL) program.
